Information

Here's a few quick points about the School.

Where?: We train at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Toryglen, in the southside of Glasgow (across the road from Hampden Park at Aitkenhead Road). The league matches are also played here unless stated otherwise.

When?: Training takes place on Friday nights from 6pm-8pm. Coaches like to start sharp so we'd appreciate that good timekeeping is noted. League games take place on Sunday mornings unless stated otherwise, times are varied each week so please be sure to check the updated fixtures here on this blog. We also ask for the children to be there at least 15 minutes before kick off, this gives the coach time to take a small warm up and also a team talk. We may arrange friendly games against teams at other venues, again we'll keep you updated both in person and on the blog.

What?: The club-training strip must be worn at all training sessions. The reason for this is that it actively breaks down barriers and empowers our young people with a sense of pride, identity and belonging to our club. It also projects a good professional image of our organisation, which will help promote us in and around the local community. Club rain jackets are also available at an additional cost which is applicable at the time of purchase. For further details or to order a training kit please phone or text Stevie on 07931149621. Size’s are as follows, (MB 28/30, LB 30/ 32, Y 32/34).

Who?: Our school is open to children ages 7-11 years (03's - 00's)

Cost?:  The first session is free of charge as an introductory offer. Thereafter, membership cost’s £25 where your child receives a full training strip and one further free session. The cost per session then is £4 on a pay as you play basis. There is no cost to participate in the league, however places are limited and inclusion depends on achieving certain criteria.

Who to see?: The main organiser of the School is Stevie Morton. His contact details can be found on the official Clyde FC Website and also on the coaches section on this blog. Again, if you need to contact a specific coach then the coaches section will direct you there.

Why Clyde?: At the present moment the Clyde FC first team may be at the depths of Scottish Football. While everyone will blame finances, we are still proud to work under the name of Clyde and we expect that everyone who pulls on a Clyde jersey to share the same enthusiasm, work ethic and willingness to play with self-pride. We appreciate we may not be the best, however we are all human beings at the end of the day and everyone here pulls together and strives to make success. We have a great record in producing players who later join various pro youth sides and we aim to maintain this and who knows, perhaps one day YOUR child may pull on the Clyde jersey for real and compete at the top level.

The youngsters at the Southside Branch of the Clyde FC School of Football were celebrating on Friday night as the Supporters Trust presented them with a cheque for £1000.
As the Bully Wee looks to strengthen its links within the wider community, the success of the Southside Branch has been celebrated by all involved with the club. Director Gordon Thomson echoed this:-

“The trust is delighted to support the coaches and kids involved with the Southside School of Football. We must not be complacent in recognising the contribution that Football Schools like this have to kid’s week in, week out. It is great to see all the young guys in Clyde jerseys. We are delighted with the support the coaches have received from parents. Long may it continue.”
Started in September 2008 by Clyde fan Stevie Morton, the Southside Branch of the School of Football aims to provide something fun and engaging for young people in Clyde’s historical home of the Southside. Stevie commented on how the sheer demand for the School took everyone by surprise.

“We wanted to provide something in the community for the kids. When we started we were looking for around 25-30 kids. 70 turned up. By March we had 85!”
Training every Friday at the in-demand Toryglen Regional Football Centre, the world renowned Coerver coaching system is employed by the coaches to help develop the youngster’s ball control and skill, making them technically proficient from an early age.
The coaching seems to be working. In their first game, the boys suffered a 20-0 defeat. However, after a few months and some effective coaching, the same team were defeated 7-1!

“We can see already that a few of the boys that are showing real potential to be great players and they are improving every week. There are scouts down here all the time and we look to link in with Clyde’s Pro-Youth system wherever possible.”
Just as important as the coaching, the School provides a platform to get the players and fans of tomorrow involved and aware of Clyde FC. At a time where Scottish football is somewhat monopolised by two clubs, it is vital that the other 40 look to the grassroots to secure their future. All the youngsters involved with the School of Football are given official Clyde FC training tops and tracksuits to replace their Old Firm ones, while the organisers ensure that the values of Clyde FC as a community club are at the heart of the School.

With this commitment from the organisers, coaches and parents, and the support from the club and fans, there is little reason why success of the Southside Branch of the Clyde FC School of Football can’t continue and help secure Clyde FC’s future as a true community club.

Gala Day - Broadwood Stadium, 7th May 2011

The yearly event took place a couple of weeks ago and it was another major success. Credit must go to Stevie who organised the event and also all the coaches who assisted in making it a fantastic day for all involved. We would also like to thank Burnside and Calderwood Primary Schools, East Kilbride Boys Club and Celtic Boys Club who all came along and enjoyed the great occasion with us. In total, more than 100 children took part in a day that will live long in the memory.

Below you can see the entry made by the official Clyde FC website, and also some photos of the day itself.

Clyde FC's status as a community club was enhanced last weekend as it's South Side School of Football held their community football day at Broadwood Stadium.
Burnside and Calderwood Primary Schools, East Kilbride Boys Club and Celtic Boys Club all visited Cumbernauld and teamed up with The Bully Wee's South Side School of Football kids to give over 100 young people a day out that they will never forget!
All aged between 7 and 11, the excited youngsters used the first team changing rooms, walked on to the pitch through the tunnel before lining up on the pitch as their names were read out over the tannoy to the cheers of the support in the stands.
The excitement of all boys and girls involved was visible as they displayed their footballing skills on the same turf that Manchester United, Everton, Rangers and Celtic have all played on in recent years. On arrival at the stadium each player was given a full VIP tour of the stadium, post match every player was presented with a special Clyde badged medal and a goodie bag.
With Clyde now officially a community interest club, organiser Stevie Morton stressed the importance of maintaining links within the club's traditional heartland:-
"We aim to promote Clyde within the community to help make youngsters and their parents aware of the club whilst providing them with a great day out that they will not forget for a long time.
"The chances are that most of these youngsters will be Rangers or Celtic supporters but we want to be the club actively providing alternative opportunities for them in their community.
"Hopefully the experience of the day might just encourage some to become Clyde supporters in the future. It's also possible that through our involvement with the local community we might just unearth potential talent for our pro-youth system and possibly even a future Clyde star!"
Douglas Morton recently apppointed Head of Community Football added “This was my first ‘official’ function and what a wonderful occasion it was. It was great to see so many youngsters in Clyde strips joined by others from across the community playing football at Broadwood.  I also have to say that the standard of football demonstrated by the Clyde players showed just how high the standard of coaching is at Southside.  If we add in the positive reaction from the parents and relatives etc. who accompanied the players then Southside have made a massive contribution to the reputation of Clyde in the Community, and by association, to the reputation of Clyde FC.  Stevie and the others did a marvellous job.  It was a privilege to be a small part of it.”
Stevie also gave thanks to the many people who helped make the day a fantastic success for both Clyde and the community which includes; John Carolan, John McCone, Stephen Muckalt, Robert Sweeney, Andy Brown, Chris Dewar, Tony Ventre, Douglas Dunn, Gordon and Maureen Nisbet, David Alexander, Andy Muir and of course new community manager Douglas Morton who presented the kids with their medals.
